Should I Bring Cash?

Although the town has several ATMs, the exchange rate is not good, and sometimes the ATM’s don’t  work (again, it’s Mexico!).  Consequently, we recommend you bring pesos with you (it’s best to bring denominations of $500, $200, $100, $50 and $20 pesos;  some local vendors will not accept  $1,000 peso bills).  Also note that while most restaurants do take credit cards, most vendors and street food sites only accept cash.

What Time Zone is San Pancho in?

In May, San Pancho is on the Mountain time zone, however, it borders the Pacific time zone, so we recommend that you manually set your clocks/phones to Puerto Vallarta time to ensure you’re not late to an event!

Can I Drink the Water?

Our recommended hotels and all restaurants have safe drinking water, but if you don’t want to chance it, please buy bottled water when you arrive.

Can I Do Laundry?

If you wish to do laundry and you do not have access to a washing machine/dryer, there are several wash/dry and fold services in town – just drop off your clothes in the morning and they are typically ready for pick up later that afternoon.

Where Can I Buy Groceries?

If you wish to buy groceries and don’t have a rental car, there are several “Mini Supers” located in town.  We recommend Mini Super Indio (located on Calle America Latina) or the Mini Super around the corner from Hotel Ciye.  The Mini Supers carry food, toiletries and alcoholic beverages.   We also recommend the veggie/fruit stand just down the street from La Selectiva (which is a liquor store carrying a large selection of adult beverages and yummy tequilas which are unavailable in the US).

How Do I Get There?

Fly into Puerto Vallarta airport; once through customs and luggage retrieval, there is no need to speak with anyone until you exit the airport and see the sky (the people inside the airport are solicitors who are trying to sell time shares, etc.); once outside, you can book an Uber or look for an “Official” taxi cab sign and let them know you want to go to San Pancho;  the cost will be around  $80 USD or $1600 MX.  You will pay in advance, sometimes with the driver and sometimes at a kiosk exiting the airport (hey it's Mexico).  Depending on traffic, it will take you about 35-55 minutes to arrive in San Pancho.

Alternatively, you could rent a car (we recommend Avis because it is located adjacent to the airport and leaving the location is quite easy);  the advantage of renting a car is that you are able to stop at La Comer (a large grocery store located in Bucerias, which is on the way to San Pancho);  La Comer takes credit cards.  If you decide to rent a car, DO NOT SPEED – the road from the airport and into the jungle is a notorious speed trap.
